Deepfake Artificial Intelligence – Useful or Dangerous?

Many new technologies are being introduced with advancements in Artificial Intelligence. Deepfake technology is one such technology.

Deepfake uses deep learning models to replicate human features on videos and create synthetic media that is digitally modified.

ExpressVPN found that deepfake technology affects people’s perception of reality and memories. There have been numerous examples of deepfake pictures and videos swaying people’s opinions.

An AI-generated image of Vladimir Putin kissing the hand of Xi Jinping has gone viral on social media, with many believing the photo was real.

What Is Deepfake Technology?

Deepfake technology is a way to digitally alter media with the help of Artificial Intelligence and deep learning models.

However, despite the multiple advantages of the technology, it can also be used for malicious reasons. If you think that deepfakes cannot create false memories, think of the Mandela effect to understand how certain popular brands and shows are often misremembered in the minds of regular viewers.

Deepfakes are essentially a tool that can easily create a Mandela effect situation with the help of content alteration.

How Can Deepfake Be Useful

Deepfake technology allows creators to create realistic content for viewers in a more innovative way. Not only does the technology allow creators to experiment with creating realistic movies, but it can also be used to further enhance the quality of video games and other media content.

Additionally, online content creators can use deepfakes to recreate movie scenes. Not only that, but deepfake allows creators to present unique and otherworldly storylines to viewers without worrying about the possibility of creating certain scenes.

It can be said that deepfake technology can bring about a humongous change in how movies and shows are filmed and presented to viewers.

Dangers Of Using Deepfake

Despite the positive uses of deepfakes, the technology is more popular among cybercriminals and can also be used for malicious purposes.

Deepfake allows cybercriminals to easily create scam content and spread misinformation that can severely impact the viewers’ minds.

It is not very easy to spot a deepfake, so most online viewers can be prey to the misinformation that is spread using deepfake technology.

If we look at some ways that deepfake can be used for malicious reasons, it can include altering historical footage and creating fake news stories. Not only that, but the technology can be used to slander business organizations or even sway public opinion over certain matters.

Conclusion

Even though people are not very aware of the existence of deepfakes, they are very heavily present on the internet.

There are many positive and negative aspects of Deepfake technology. Despite the positive uses of the technology, it can not be denied that proper measures are needed to stop the misuse of deepfake technology.

Deepfake can be beneficial in the field of media and entertainment as filmmakers can make use of technology to create better content. However, the technology can also be used for Internet scams and to spread false information.
