How To Convert PAL DVD To NTSC

PAL and NTSC are two different video formats used by different countries and regions of the world. NTSC is mainly used in the US, Japan and Canada, while PAL is used in Europe and Africa.

Most of the times, a DVD video in one format cannot be played on a player on the other format. If you don’t trust the source of your DVD, it can be very easy to associate the problem to an empty or corrupted DVD, but the truth is that you are actually trying to marry two incompatible video formats.

A common problem for Americans for example is that they purchase a DVD Player which plays only NTSC movies. When they get a hold of a PAL DVD, they simply can’t use it on their player system.

DVD video producers make their DVD movies according to regions of the world and this is how they classify them. DVD players made for one region cannot be expected to work when used in a different region.

This incompatibility often results in pictures appearing in black and white when they should be in color. The culprit to this is using a DVD player specifically manufactured for one format to play a DVD disc (or other media file) that supports a different format.

Identifying the problem is half of the solution. Once you have identified the cause of the problem, then you are well on the way to finding a solution. The problem to convert pal DVD to NTSC has been facing users for such a long time.

There are several solutions to the problem; the first and easiest is to get a DVD player that plays both versions. This should not cost much, between $50 and $100 should do it; although most players in the market today do play both formats.

Alternatively, get a region free player; a region free DVD player is one not manufactured specifically for any region. Such DVD players play all DVD formats. Secondly, you can always go for a region free DVD disc as these discs are not selective in which devices they can work.

Still, there is a third option, which is incidentally the hardest of all. It involves decrypting the files, and writing them on the hard disk before it can be played back and watched.

This can be achieved manually or with software to convert a Pal DVD to NTSC. The manual conversion option will take so much time, and even then, you are not guaranteed to get it right the first time.

The video conversion software will cost you anywhere in the range of $100 unless you get the AVS Video Converter tool which is a suit of several video/audio utilities for a much lower price. Use the following coupon code for AVS4YOU 20% Discount Code: TECH-YP0A-AVS

Other than that, most video conversion software come with user manuals on how to convert Pal DVD to NTSC. Some can convert automatically, while others need to be manually set to perform the task.

There are some free converters available on the internet as freeware, however they are either fully packed with viruses and Trojans or they simply do not work.

There are also commercial versions that come with additional features and better performance, such as the AVS Video Conversion utility that we mentioned above.

While it is not easy to decide which version will work best for your needs, you better try the best video conversion tool which is AVS (Free Trial Version Available).

If it turns out to satisfy your needs, then you really don’t need to look at any other solution. So, when you are buying a DVD player or DVD disc, make sure that you check its compatibility with your region.
