Last Wednesday, Microsoft announced that Xbox Music would no longer be just a paid music streaming service.
The new functionality lets you upload the music that you already have in your OneDrive account, and play it on your Xbox.
So now, music from your very own personal library can be placed inside OneDrive’s Music folder and can now be accessed through Windows’ music apps, as well as Xbox and Windows Phone.
Step 1: Secure an Xbox Music Pass
But the most amazing part of this enhancement is that you don’t need to have an Xbox Music Pass to be able to enjoy this new feature.
But if you’re already an Xbox Music Pass subscriber, you will receive 100GB of additional storage inside your OneDrive account, so you can store a large amount of music files.
And it doesn’t end there – Xbox Music apps on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One can now be utilized to listen to music stored in OneDrive. You will also now be able to listen to your favorite tunes through OneDrive on the Internet.
Step 2: Install One Drive App
It’s easy to stream your own music using Xbox Music: You need to decide if you want to install the OneDrive app into your computer, or simply just use the website to upload your music files.
If you’re going for the second option, keep in mind that OneDrive’s website cannot upload folders – But the app does. So if you have a large selection of music files, you should upload them through the app instead.
Step 3: Sign in and Upload files to Your One Drive
The next step is to sign in into OneDrive. You can do this by logging in to the account that you use on your Xbox.
After signing in, start uploading your music files into your Music folder using your OneDrive account. It’s also important to remember that if your music files are stored in another folder, then Xbox Music won’t get to see and play it.
Step 4: Install and Download Xbox Music
As your music starts uploading, install or download the Xbox Music app to your console. You can also stream your tunes using a computer with a Windows 8.1 operating system, as well as a Windows Phone 8.1 device, and even the official Xbox Music website. And once you’re done and you want to listen to your favorite music, just launch the Xbox Music app on your console, choose your favorite album, and listen away.
