5 Technologies That Are Changing the World As We Know It

Futurists of the second part of 20th century hoped that humanity will enter the 21st-century driving flying cars and using robots at home, but it looks like we’ll need to wait some more. The focus of today’s society is directed toward social networks, live streaming, and smartphones.

5 technologies changing the world

Those predictions from the past weren’t right about the time, but they managed to describe the right technologies.

Humanity is on the brink of another technological revolution, and self-driving vehicles and robot assistants are a major part of it. Of course, that’s not all that will change the world we live in, so go ahead and check out other exciting technologies that will go mainstream very soon.

1) Voice assistants

This technology already made its way to people’s homes, but it’s expected to become a necessity in just a couple of years.

Almost every home in the USA will own their own AI-driven voice assistant. The power of AI will also continue to grow in the future so voice assistants will become much better and more helpful.

The biggest tech companies reported great demand for this products so they focused on further development. If this trend continues in the years to come, humanity will stop communicating with machines using text, we’ll start using voice instead.

2) Quantum computing

The computers we know and use are communicating information in terms of ones and zeros. There are very powerful computers today, but they have their limitations when it comes to processing machine-learning problems.

Fortunately, the successor is here, and its usage of quantum bits will carry the information much faster. Quantum computers will be able to process huge amounts of data much easier than traditional computers could.

Without quantum computers, it will be nearly impossible to develop machine learning which is the base technology for everything from self-driving cars to marketing campaigns.

3) Crispr

Imagine the world that is free of genetic disease. We could be living in it just a decade from now. Scientists managed to develop CRISPR Cas-9 which is a gene-splicing technology that can find and remove mutated parts of human DNA.

Once the bad part is removed, crispr technology will replace it with a not-mutated alternative. This means that crispr has the power to destroy genetic diseases from bloodlines.

Scientists already have some experience using this groundbreaking technology with cancer patients, and genetically caused blindness, and results were positive. Crispr is still under development and if it’s done right, it will be able to eliminate every single genetic disease in the world.

4) Augmented and mixed reality

This technology was just a science fiction a few years ago. Major tech companies started investing big bucks meanwhile so it’s a matter of time when this becomes mainstream.

Augmented and mixed reality will allow people to communicate just the way they used to on their phones, but hands will be free.

This technology will be incorporated into glasses that will be providing information. For example, it would be enough to look at the pack of beans at the stores and augmented reality will provide you with the list of nutrients. Once the augmented reality is out and viral, smartphones will become a part of history.

5) Artificial intelligence

Automation became a very important part of every bigger company’s operations and that’s possible thanks to AI. This AI-based technology is dealing with customers perfectly and saves a lot of money. This revolutionary technology wasn’t that popular in the past when computer scientists tried to explore its possibilities. Artificial intelligence went a long way until it became recognized.

It started developing almost one century ago, and its glory days were in 1997 when IBM’s Deep Blue managed to score a win on Garry Kasparov using brute force computing.

Since that moment the interest in AI started to grow and IBM continued investing in this technology. They’ve developed Watson for Oncology, that advises doctors when making treatment choices and learns from data collected by the doctors themselves.

Paired with Big data, Artificial Intelligence will continue to grow and it will be a base technology for a wide variety of products which will change the world.

Final thoughts

The technologies described above will become mainstream in the next few years, but that’s not all. Their development will accelerate development of other technologies so we’ll have much better driverless vehicles, reusable rockets, regenerative medicine, and cryptocurrency market.

The world we’re heading to comes with uncountable benefits, but it will have its challenges as well. Everybody should be aware that we’re living in a very important moment in history, and being responsible and rational is more important than ever.
